Abstract

Background: Minimally invasive treatment of advanced vascular disease using endoluminal therapy affords the patient a lower morbidity and mortality than open reconstruction. The Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus (TASC) developed a set of guidelines used to determine the ease and appropriateness with which peripheral arterial lesions can be treated by endovascular therapy. The commonly employed technique of subintimal angioplasty is challenging in complex cases (TASC class C and D lesions). Recently, re-entry devices have been developed to overcome this technical limitation.
