Abstract

Introduction: Peptide YY (PYY), a member of the pancreatic polypeptide group of peptides, has been shown to improve acute pancreatitis in vitro and in vivo. There are six identified receptor subtypes for this family of peptides, Y1-6. Previously we have demonstrated that PYY (3-36), a native Y2 receptor agonist, reduced the severity of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α induced pancreatitis by inhibiting nuclear factor (NF)-κB and other transcription factors known to be involved in inflammation. The Y4 receptor binds all three naturally occurring members of the pancreatic polypeptide family.
