Abstract

Background: The mechanism of liver regeneration is still not fully understood. Especially the involvement of extrahepatic cells in liver regeneration is charming hypothesis proposed in experiments with rodent, however, it has not been documented in human. Therefore, we investigated liver regeneration after adult-to-adult partial liver transplantation in a male recipient (XY), who was transplanted a female liver (XX) in order to investigate the existence of Y chromosome in a biopsied liver. Patients and Methods: Of 76 living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) between 1997 and September 2007, 49 patients were studied including 9 children and 40 adults.
