Abstract

Many teaching methods using smartphones and QR codes have been developed in recent years. We can easily obtain information by scanning a QR code which was developed by Denso-Wave. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether or not a teaching method using this QR code can be effective for basic English conversation classes and can have an influence on learners` affective domain. This study was conducted over a 15-week period with 150 learners who were divided into two groups; an experimental group and a control group. A pre-test and post-test, pre-questionnaires and post-questionnaires, and an in-depth interview were conducted to verify the effects of this study. The first result of the study was that the mean scores of the pre and post tests of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group. Second, the experimental group showed positive enhancement in most of the affective factors, whereas the control group did not demonstrate statistically significant results.
