Abstract
5G systems are expected to be key enablers for provisioning advanced applications and services for Internet of Things (IoT). Therefore, beyond supporting the conventional cellular phones, 5G systems are expected to support several heterogeneous devices and sensors, which may have a diverse range of requirements. In this paper, first, we identify several possible scenarios of IoT and their requirements in 5G systems. Then, we discuss the required changes that can be made in terms of architecture, technologies, hardware and software to address these requirements. In addition, we propose a QoS-aware channel assignment mechanism for smart building with heterogeneous IoT devices. An optimization problem is formulated for channel assignment in order to maximize the utility of IoT devices while satisfying the data rate, latency, and bit error rate (BER) requirements. Finally, we present simulation results which demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed mechanism.
