Abstract

In this paper, quarter-mode substrate integrated waveguide (QMSIW) cavities for designing compact dual-frequency millimeter-wave antenna and array are presented. Two QMSIW cavities with unequal size are placed in a back-to-back manner and share a common row of vias. This leads to a compact dual-frequency structure. Each QMSIW can be designed and tuned independently. For demonstration, a QMSIW dual-frequency millimeter-wave antenna and its array at 28 GHz and 38 GHz bands for 5G applications are designed. Their simulated results are presented.
