Abstract

An analytical queueing model generator (QMOD) is a package for generating and analyzing queueing networks. A description of a queueing network, written in a language meaningful to the user, is compiled into a set of matrices that characterize an analytical model of the network. Network flow rates are computed and used to derive arrival rates at each operation and tool. Tool arrival rates, service rates, and quantities are used in an analytic queueing model of the M/M/K form. Analytical models typically require orders of magnitude less computation time than do simulation models. They, therefore, lend themselves to parametric studies and optimization in ways that would be impractical with simulation models.
