Abstract

Quasi-conformal transformation optics (QCTO) provides a practical approach to design nonmagnetic broadband medium for electromagnetic devices, here we present a novel hybrid method of QCTO with array synthesis, and apply it to conformal phased array antenna (PAA) design which makes the complex conformal PAA can behave like a geometrically different array with wide scanning range when surrounded with QCTO lens. Taking conformal circular and triangular arrays as examples, numerical simulations are given to show how arbitrary non-uniform PAA based on QCTO can radiate and scan as a uniformly spaced linear PAA with low sidelobe, which make all of the advantages of linear array, such as simple array synthesis and beamforming, can be retained in an arbitrary array with complex geometry.
