Abstract
Significance Qatar has played an important mediating role during the ongoing Gaza conflict. Doha was granted Major Non-NATO Ally status in March 2022 in recognition of its contribution to US national interests, including hosting the US-operated Al-Udeid Air Base (AUAB), and mediating the release of US nationals held hostage. Impacts Members of Congress members will continue to seek assurances that Doha is maximising leverage over Hamas in the Gaza conflict. The AUAB will play an increasingly important role for US military and counterterrorism operations in Iraq and Yemen. Qatari and US officials will strive to maintain their strong bilateral trade and investment relationship.
