Abstract

This paper proposes QARWA (Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment) algorithm to handle dynamic lightpath provisioning in wavelength routed transparent optical networks. Specifically, the QARWA algorithm considers both bit-error rate (BER) and setup delay constraints. In this article, we present and evaluate an enhanced wavelength-assignment solution in the QARWA to handle the wavelength continuity constraint. In QARWA, source node determines the connection path by means of the shortest path algorithm and destination node selects a wavelength based on the BER limitation and decreasing order of setup latency.
