Abstract

The levels of pyruvate Pi dikinase, NADP malic enzyme, NAD malic enzyme and phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) carboxykinase were estimated in ten Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) plants. Species utilizing NADP malic enzyme and NAD malic enzyme to decarboxylate malate possessed more pyruvate Pi dikinase and this enzyme was minimal in species utilizing PEP carboxykinase for decarboxylation. The regulatory role of this enzyme in CAM plants with different decarboxylating systems was discussed.
