Abstract

Ni(II) ions in the presence of excess of pyrophosphate catalyze the decomposition of HSO5−, while forming relatively stable NiIII(P2O7)n3−4n complexes. Excess pyrophosphate stabilizes the trivalent nickel species, NiIII(P2O7)n3−4naq, i.e. increases considerably its lifetime.
