Abstract

Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) are of particular interest for energy conversion and storage and have drawn a lot of recent attentions. It is obvious that efficient electrocatalysts are highly needed to selectively accelerate the ORR and CO2RR at a low overpotential. Metalloporphyrins and the derivatives represent an important type of non-precious metal electrocatalysts (NPMEs). Herein, we introduce the synthesis of several types of metalloporphyrin-based NPMEs by pyrolysis of self-assembled porphyrins in the presence or absence of carbon supports. As-prepared NPMEs with core-shell structure or flower-like structure exhibit excellent performance toward ORR and CO2RR. This study shows that porphyrin-based materials may play an import role in the field of clean and renewable energy. Keywords: oxygen reduction reaction, CO2 reduction reaction, metalloporphyrins, self-assembly, pyrolysis
