Abstract

Abstract The Michael-type addition of carbanionic reagents to 2- and 4-vinylpyridines has been widely examined and utilized in organic synthesis.1 When malonic esters are employed, the usual procedure is to reflux the reagents in ethanol containing sodium ethoxide. However, the yields of these reactions have been somewhat variable2.
