This is usually due to narrowing, which in some cases is in the duodenum instead of at the pylorus. In either case, however, it is generally referred to as pyloric obstruction. The narrowing may be caused by spasm and edema secondary to an active ulcer, scar tissue formed in the healing of an ulcer, or a combination of both of these factors.
