Abstract

The thermodynamic properties of a series of longitudinal (main-chain) polymer liquid crystals were investigated by analysis of their pressure-volume-temperature characteristics. It is possible to describe the behaviour of theses semi-rigid polymers above the glasstransition temperature with excellent accuracy using a mathematically very simple equation of state: the Hartmann Equation.
