Abstract

All Solar Farms contain inverter as an essential part of it to convert DC power generated from PV (photo voltaic) modules into AC power. This paper presents a strategy of PV solar farm inverter control as a dynamic reactive power compensator- static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) when large Wind Farm is connected to a feeder and also load at the feeder end changes significantly. Using this control the voltage of feeder can be regulated. The performance of this control strategy was studied when a three phase line to ground (3LG) fault occurred on load bus. Effect of location of PV solar farm on transient performance during 3LG fault was also studied. Commercial grade software DIgSILENT Power Factory was used to simulate the proposed concept and perform transient study.
