Abstract

This paper proposes a design of low cost and reliable solar powered switched reluctance motor (SRM) driven agriculture pump using a dual supply SE-CuCC (SEPIC-Cuk) converter suited for remote and rural areas. The proposed system is developed to minimize both cost and complexity, while synchronously guaranteeing optimal operation of the PV (Photovoltaic) array. A combination of SEPIC (Single Ended Primary Converter) and Cuk converter for dual output is utilized as a DC-DC power optimizing stage in between solar PV array and switched reluctance motor (SRM). Owing to an identical instantaneous duty cycle, the switching node is shared by both SEPIC and Cuk converters. In order to enhance the performance of system, the motor speed is adjusted by varying the DC-link voltage. A deviation free maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is used in proposed system to optimize the performance of PV array. Moreover, the proposed MPPT control has an additional advantage of regulating the flow rate of water pumping by adjusting the duty cycle of DC-to-DC converter. Overall, the proposed system provides a solution for a cost effective, efficient and maintenance free solar PV array energized agriculture pump.
