Security professionals should be familiar with ongoing developments in the systems security engineering field, specifically the second public release of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-160 Systems Security Engineering: Considerations for a Multidisciplinary Approach in the Engineering of Trustworthy Secure Systems. NIST SP 800-160 provides a systems-oriented approach to engineering secure systems in what is perhaps the most significant work in the specialty domain's history.
