Putting the Peaces on the Page

Abstract

A number of geographers have called for geopolitical research that is of and for peace and non-violence. In part this work responds to calls for the wider consideration of the geographies and geopolitics of non-violence , of non-killing and of peace . Works that responded to those calls did so, predominantly, against the backdrop of a rapidly shifting landscape of uprisings and occupations, where the geographies of protest, solidarity, and non-violent resistance were popularised. A physical presence in major cities and a widespread virtual presence across social media, contributed to many protest events becoming international media spectacles. As streets became protest camps, resistance was being actively practiced in front of the cameras and alternative political spaces performed and prefigured in real time. Some of these became the birthplace of new political orders.
