Abstract

In Earth's magnetosphere, fast bursts of plasma have been observed with speeds varying between 200 and 1500 kilometers per second at distances between 20 Earth radii and 6 Earth radii from Earth. These bursty flows have been observed for decades, but it has not been clear what makes the flows come to a stop.
