Abstract

Purpose: As the major contributor to post-neonatal deaths, and with no substantial progress over the past two decades, sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) deserves to be reexamined with new perspective. Expanded use of death scene investigations has offered evidence that many infants who die suddenly and unexpectedly suffocate in unsafe sleeping environments.
