Abstract

AN ANNUAL RITE OF SPRING, THE In-Cosmetics show brought together personal care products ingredients suppliers and their customers to review the latest formulation trends. Plant-derived natural ingredients continued to be a big draw at the show, held this year in London's Excel exhibition hall April 9-11. Also remarkable was the number of new hair-fixative polymers from National Starch & Chemical, Noveon, and ISP; sunscreen active ingredients from BASF, Bayer's Haarmann & Reimer unit, and Germany's Merck; and the small but growing number of suppliers of biotechnology-based materials. The 2,850 visitors—about the same number as attended the In-Cosmetics show in Dusseldorf a year ago—continued to find ingredients suppliers eager to satisfy consumer demand for age-defying compounds. Booths that seemed to draw the biggest crowds generally had some stake in the trend toward plant-derived ingredients.
