Abstract
1. 1. The active transport of purines and pyrimidines across an in vitro everted intestinal sac of Cryptochiton stelleri was studied. 2. 2. The purines guanine and hypoxanthine were absorbed by active transport mechanisms as were the pyrimidines thymine and uracil. 3. 3. No evidence for the active transport of adenine, uric acid and cytosine was obtained. 4. 4. The active transport mechanism for the purines and pyrimidines was dependent on a constant supply of aerobic metabolic energy.
