Abstract
The acetone-water solubles from quebracho tannin extract were separated into three fractions of different molecular weights. The purified tannins yielded sugars and gallic acid upon acid hydrolysis, and lignin derived degradation products upon KMnO 4 oxidation. It was concluded that the sugars and the lignin are covalently linked to the condensed tannins.
