Purification of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase from the sea-urchin, Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus

Abstract

1. 1. Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) was purified from ovaries of the sea-urchin, Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus, by the sequential column chromatography of Ultrogel AcA 34, Blue-Sepharose CL6B, DEAE-Sephadex and 2′,5′-ADP-Sepharose 4B. 2. 2. The enzyme thus purified showed the specific activity of 267 with 20% yield and was proved to be homogeneous by SDS-polyacrylamide disc gel electrophoresis. 3. 3. The purification procedure used in this study has several advantages and was effective generally in G6PDs of other sea-urchin species.
