Abstract

A virus isolated from apple and pear, and coded GE36, was purified from sap ofChenopodium quinoa by bentonite clarification followed by differential centrifugation and rate-zonal centrifugation on a sucrose gradient in a zonal rotor. Infectious fractions contained spherical virus-like particles. An antiserum with a titer of 64 was prepared. No serological relation was found with 22 known spherical viruses and alfalfa mosaic virus. GE36 virus differs from any other sap-transmissible virus from apple and pear previously described.
