Abstract

The main α-glucosidase from sugar-beet cells has been isolated by a procedure including fractionation with ammonium sulphate, Sephacryl S-200 HR column chromatography, CM-cellulose column chromatography, Mono Q column chromatography, and preparative disc gel electrophoresis. The M r of the enzyme was 53 000. The enzyme hydrolysed maltooligosaccharides at a faster rate than maltose. The K m values for maltose and maltohexaose were 3.5 and 0.35 mM.
