Abstract

1. 1. Glutamate dehydrogenase (E.3. 1.4.1.3) (GDH) was purified to the same constant specific activity from the livers of Rana catesbeiana frogs and tadpoles by an identical method. 2. 2. The enzymes from both sources showed an identical substrate specific when tested with several amino acids and had the same K m 's for NADH, NADPH, α-ketoglutarate and ammonium chloride under the assay conditions employed. 3. 3. Both preparations were activated by ADP and inhibited by GDP and GTP to the same degree. 4. 4. The two enzymes co-chromatographed from crude extracts on DEAE-Sephadex. 5. 5. Contrary to previous reports, the GDH preparations from these two sources appear to be identical.
