Abstract
An extracellular carboxymethyl cellulase (CMCase) was purified to homogeneity fromBacillus thermoalcaliphilus sp. nov. The cellulase was composed of a single subunit with molar mass of 46 kDa. The apparentK m was at 3.5 mg cellulose per mL. Its optimum pH was 8.5, it was most stable at pH 8.5–9.5 but 50% of enzyme activity was present after 30 min at pH 11.0. The activity was highest at 70°C.
