Abstract

Thai Photovoltaics Limited intends to manufacture relatively simple, low-cost photovoltaic solar cell modules in Thailand (based on proven US and European manufacturing equipment, and using local raw materials), to meet substantial existing electricity demands in the surrounding Asian, Eurasian and Indo-Pacific countries. Douglas Parsons, an American nuclear engineer, has chosen Thailand as the home base for his new enterprise, Thai Photovoltaics Ltd (TPV), a private company set up to manufacture relatively simple, low-cost amorphous silicon thin-film photovoltaic solar modules. Using proven technology and production systems acquired from the US and Europe, the new company's sales will target burgeoning renewable energy markets in the Indo-Pacific region. Parsons and his colleagues are currently launching the second phase of an investment programme to provide the crucial funds for production startup by mid-2003.
