Abstract
Oxygen seems to repair brain damage years after concussion. The treatment may help the 5 per cent of people who experience long-term symptoms after sustaining a concussion. Post-concussion syndrome can involve headaches, mood changes, sleep disturbances and cognitive problems. These symptoms arise because an impact to the head can damage tiny blood vessels in the brain, making it harder for oxygen to reach brain cells. Shai Efrati at Tel Aviv University in Israel and his team have been investigating whether hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help.
