Abstract

The punching behaviour of a slab-column connection with a spatial steel drop panel composed of a steel drop plate, batten plates and a confined steel plate were experimentally investigated in this study. The experimental variables were the size of steel drop plate, the length of batten plate and whether the steel drop plates have slits. Five specimens were manufactured and tested under monotonically-increased load to ascertain the effect of different details of the spatial steel drop panel components on the punching shear performance. Test results showed that configuring the spatial steel drop panel improved the punching failure range of the slab, and led to the increase of punching strength and ductility of the slab-column connection. A formula, which calculates the punching shear capacity of a slab-column connection with a spatial steel drop panel, was proposed and the calculated results are in good agreement with the test results.
