Abstract

Mines in South Africa are sinking deeper and deeper into the earth's crust in search of gold but as they do so the demands facing pump applications is increasing exponentially. The Beatrix gold mine in South Africa's Free State province goes down to a depth of 1km or more in some places and a new shaft has recently been added placing even greater demands on the pumping system. ITT Flygt's pumps have been used throughout the mine for years to prevent flooding and control the flow of water within the mine.
