Abstract
This article discusses the operation and maintenance of pumps, and how a proper understanding of pump components and regular maintenance can prolong the life of a utility's most energy‐consuming operation. The article discusses several types of bearings found in pumping equipment, proper lubrication of bearings, packing to allow proper leakage, maintaining clearance between wear rings and case rings, and the types of major repair jobs that can be expected for pumps.
