Abstract

Time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) measurements have been carried out on the kinetics of a number of reactions of the radical CN(upsilon=0) These radicals were generated by pulsed dye laser photolysis of NCNO at 572 nm. LIF measurements were made by using a second dye laser tuned to a line in the CN B/sup 2/..sigma../sup +/-X/sup 2/..sigma../sup +/ (0,0) band at 388 nm. Rate constants (cm/sup 3/ molecule/sup -1/ s/sup -1/) have been obtained for reaction of CN with H/sub 2/, O/sub 2/, NH/sub 3/, HCl, HBr, and HI: (2.45 +lt. slash- 0.5) x 10/sup -14/, (1.86 +/- 0.20) x 10/sup -11/, (2.5 +/- 0.5) x 10..pi../sup 11/, (6 +/- 4) x 10/sup -15/, (6.45 +/- 2.6) x 10/sup -13/, and (6.6 +/- 1.2) x 10/sup -11/. The errors which are quoted correspond to two standard deviations.
