Abstract

Objective To discuss the state of pediatric severe pneumonia heart function using pulsed Doppler Tei index, and provide evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods 60 healthy children (normal group) and 33 children with severe pneumonia (pneumonia group) were examined with echocardiography.Left ventricular ejective fraction and fraction shortening were measured by color M-mode Doppler echocardiography; left and right ventricular isovolumic contraction time, isovolumic relaxation time, ejection time and Tei index were measured by pulsed Doppler. The data of two groups were compared and analyzed. Results Left and fight ventricular Tei indexes of pneumonia group were significantly higher than those of normal group, with statistical significant differences between two groups (P < 0.01).Right ventricular Tei index was higher than left ventricular Tei index in pneumonia group, with statistical significant difference (P < 0.01).There were no statistically significant differences in left ventricular ejective fraction and fraction shortening between two groups (P > 0.05).Conclusions Pulsed Doppler Tei index is a new and reliable method in the evaluation of pediatric severe pneumonia heart function.Left and right ventricular Tei indexes of pneumonia group were significantly higher than those of normal group.Heart function in children with pneumonia should be protected during the clinical diagnosis and treatment.
