Abstract

Modelling of the electrical conditions of an electrostatic precipitator (ESP) with dust loading under pulsed corona is difficult, and little progress has been made in this field. A method for the pulsed corona modelling of a wire-cylinder ESP based on the characteristics of Trichel pulses and the applied pulse voltage is developed and a novel way of dealing the particle charging is presented. The quantitative studies of the interactions between ion space charge and particle charging, and their influence on the potential and field distributions have offered a deep insight into physical phenomena of the ESP. The proposed model is valid as long as the width of the applied voltage is less than 1 /spl mu/s.
