Abstract

The fact that temporal Talbot (self-imaging) effects of periodic optical pulse sequences are not necessarily restricted to first-order dispersive media is demonstrated and the required conditions for achieving integer and fractional Talbot phenomena in a general dispersive medium are derived. These results are of interest for implementing lossless pulse repetition rate multiplication using customised allpass phase-optical filters.
