Abstract
HVR products are manufactured from a carefully blended mixture of clays, alumina and carbon. The material is then pressed to the required shape and fired in a tunnel kiln at high temperatures in a controlled atmosphere. This produces a ceramic carbon resistor body of 100% active volume. Aluminium metal is flame sprayed onto the flat surfaces of the resistor to provide electrical contact and an anti-track coating applied to the periphery to improve dielectric withstand. With the capability of sustaining energies ranging from Joules to mega-Joules at frequencies up to mega-cycles, HVR products can be used in even the most demanding applications. These include electrical transmission, pulse power, dummy load, energy dump, AC/DC drives, and pulse forming networks. The following thermal models for use with HVR linear ceramic carbon resistors are considered: single electrical energy impulse (Joules); continuous electrical energy (Watts); and repetitive electrical impulsing.
