Abstract

We investigated some interesting features of the free electron scattering in a field of strong ultrashort light pulse. It is shown, that due to relativistic effects in electron motion, the spectrum of the scattering radiation is considerably broader than that of the incident pulse. In the proper directions the scattered field appears as a pulse with extremely short duration (about 1 fs and shorter). This effect could be used for ultrashort pulse compression.
