Abstract

A procedure for simulating new pulse-like ground motion based on natural pulse-like ground motion record is proposed. Firstly, an extraction method of pulse waveform based on Modified Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition is proposed, which reveals the relationship between half-wavelength width and pulse time-frequency information. Secondly, according to the response spectrum of the extracted non-pulse time-history, a triangular series is used to generate a stationary time-history, and then the extracted pulse component is added to the time-history, and the intensity envelope is adjusted to obtain the simulated pulse-like ground motion. Finally, the seismic response results of the Bouc-Wen-Baber-Noori model and the three-dimensional finite element model of the high-rise building are validated. It shows that the nonlinear effect of the simulated pulse-like ground motion by this method is close to that of the original natural pulse-like ground motion. The simulated pulse-like ground motion by this method can be used to analyze the inelastic response of various structures.
