Abstract

Rabbits were injected with 111ln platelets and then received an infusion of either oleic acid (0.125 g/kg) or normal saline. One hour after receiving oleic acid, the animals developed hypoxemia, thrombocytopenia, and an edematous hemorrhagic lung injury. The number of platelets in the lung was increased compared with that in control rabbits, showing that pulmonary platelet deposition accompanies oleic-acid-induced lung injury.
