Pulmonary Function Testing in Children: Techniques and Standards.

Abstract

It is a pleasure to review a book that is clearly written, informative, and relevant. Of the many books on the library shelves dealing with pulmonary function there are none specifically directed as techniques and results involving children. This volume by Polgar and Promadhat nicely fits that need. The authors state the book was written primarily for physicians, technicians, and investigators who perform, evaluate, and interpret pulmonary function tests in children. I may add that this book could also be used readily by any physician who is caring for a child with cardiac or pulmonary disease and wants to understand the rationale and the results of the pulmonary function tests. There is just enough discussion of the basic physiological principles to explain the significance of the various testing procedures. The book is divided basically into two sections.
