Abstract

THERE has been comparatively little research work conducted on pullorum disease in turkeys since it was first reported by Hewitt (1928). One of the problems to receive most attention has been that of comparing the rapid agglutination test with the tube test to detect carrier birds (Hinshaw et al., 1940; Dickenson et al., 1944; Bushnell, 1945; Corpron et al., 1946; 1947; Gauger, 1947; Gwatkin 1948). Conflicting results have been obtained; certain workers have obtained satisfactory results with the rapid test while others have found the tube test to be more accurate.Among other problems to receive limited atttention are infection in poults (Emmel, 1929; Gwatkin, 1948); antibody production (Corpron et al., 1947; Gwatkin, 1948); isolation of S. pullorum from turkeys (Dalling et al., 1929; Corpron et al., 1947; Moore, 1947); isolation of S. pullorum from turkey eggs (Gauger, 1946); S. pullorum antigen studies (Gwatkin, 1948; Corpron et al., 1947).From .
