Abstract

The article describes the characteristics of the Ukrainian folklore collection of the XIX century from the «dispersed» Ucrainica collection in the funds of the Scientific library of Odessa National I. І. Mechnikov University. In the early 20s of the XIX century in the Central scientific library (in 1924-1930 the contemporary Scientific library of Odessa national I. I. Mechnikov University had this name) there was created a separate department of Ukrainian book – the Ukrainian cabinet, the goal of which was the collection and acquisition of the Ukrainian book fund. In 1925 the cabinet was reorganized into the Ukrainian department – Ucrainica. According to the data from 1928, the total amount of books in the department was about 50 thousand units, 25 thousand names. The stamp «Ucrainica» which is placed mainly on the title page or the upper cover of the binding indicates that the copies belong to the fund. In the modern Scientific Library of the Odessa National I. I. Mechnikov University books from the collection of Ucrainica d’not form a separate department, and they are scattered in funds. Through the frontal review of the book stock of the library, employees of the department of rare books and manuscripts work on the reconstruction of the Ukrainian book collection. To date, about two hundred copies with a stamp «UCRAINICA» have been installed. The collections of Ukrainian folklore of G. S. Ilkevich, F. Bodenstedt, A. Metlinsky, M. A. Markevich, P. S. Efimenko, Ya. F. Golovatsky, described in the article which were included into the Ukrainian department of the Central Scientific Library, reveal the historical and cultural value and are of interest as objects of study for scientists from special branches of literature studies, ethnology, history and bibliographers. The prospects for studying the ‘dispersed’ collection of Ucrainica in the funds of the Odessa National I. I. Mechnikov University Scientific Library are associated with the subsequent identification of copies of the Ukrainian book and the restoration of the collection to the full extent.
