Abstract

Fantasy and the old but gold Bildungsroman have been enchanting countless children and adults alike. J. K. Rowling’s unique wizarding world in the Harry Potter Series, in particular, has opened up a new aspect for us to perceive reality. Magic could serve as an inspiration to technological practices, and reversely, technology is the ultimate method (unfortunately for us muggles) to realize our imagination for a more convenient life. Among the magical objects depicted in the series, the moving portraits with the ability of interacting with people looking at them are miraculous examples. With the great support of CIS and IEEE staff teams, CIM creates a technological counterpart—a new column “AI-eXplained (AI-X)”—which is a novel type of publication aiming to explain Al/CI-related concepts, designs, and applications via interactive contents. Each AI-X article includes two parts: an extended abstract and a full paper. The former is a two-page abstract to be published in the printed CIM, while the latter encompasses a complete article together with interactive contents published online in IEEE Xplore. Just as the magical portraits are able to talk and move, AI-X articles come along with multimedia that can interact with readers. On rendering more vivid and attractive presentations than the conventional print publication, AI-X articles hope to provide an immersive user experience so as to deliver ideas clearer
