Abstract

The widespread debate and community concern about changes to the Victorian auditor‐general's office shows that they go beyond accounting, business or competition issues (important as these are) and stand as significant matters of governance. The changes and the debate say something about the nature and character of our society ‐ in particular, about the quality and qualities of Victorian political, business and professional leadership ‐ and about the relative strengths of the Victorian parliament and the Victorian executive.
