Abstract

An analysis of more than 100 syllabi from public relations courses, gathered from 31 colleges and universities, shows that most public relations instructors are combining instruction in writing, editing and social skills with innovative teaching practices that enlist practitioner support. Albert Walker's article traces the development of public relations education through quinquennial surveys begun in 1970. At that time, a trend toward “a more theoretical approach” to public relations education was observed. Dr. Walker's update indicates that the theoretical direction of public relations courses has continued, “but with greater emphasis on developing skills and techniques through projections, PRSSA, Pro-Ams, and the greater availability of internships.”
