Abstract

This entry analyses the different forms of public private partnerships or collaborations (PPPs) through which public and private actors strive to achieve sustainable development goals. Such collaborations can happen at macro (policy formulation), meso (through programs) and micro (projects) level and they have been increasing in importance in the recent years as a consequence of a relevant shift of economic players and investors towards ESG investing and the rise of impact investing. After the explanation of the context and the main interactions that are emerging at macro level; the entry explains, inter alia, the role played by development banks and blended finance finance mechanism as one of the main forms of collaboration at meso level; lastly, it presents the dominant collaborations at project level, among them outcome based contracts.
